What happens to what you write.
Decide Smaller has no accounts. This page explains, plainly, what is stored, for how long, and how to delete it.
What you enter
The decision you describe, the options and horizon you choose, your answers to the three questions, and optional feedback.
AI processing
To generate the questions and the recommendation, your text is sent from our server to the Claude API of Anthropic, an AI provider. Anthropic processes it under its own terms and privacy policy (anthropic.com/legal/privacy) and may retain API data for a limited time for safety and abuse prevention. If a topic looks medical, legal, financial-crisis or safety-related, the tool uses a built-in flow instead: nothing is sent to the AI provider and no text is stored.
What we store, and for how long
For AI sessions we store your decision, answers, the questions and the recommendation on our server for 90 days, so that you can email yourself a report and so that we can improve the tool. After 90 days the text is erased. You can erase it earlier at any time with the “Delete my data” button on the result screen. Optional feedback is stored with the session; free-text comments are erased together with it.
Anonymous statistics
We keep anonymous usage figures: which steps were reached, language, topic area, device type (mobile or desktop), recommendation type, feedback choices and AI usage (tokens, response time). They contain none of your text and no email address, and they are kept after the 90 days.
Email report
If you ask for the PDF report, your email address is used once to send it and is not stored. The report is generated from your stored session and sent through our email provider.
Waitlist for the paid brief
If you join the waitlist for the full decision brief, we store your email address, language, the form you used and the time of your confirmation. We use them only to email you once when the brief launches. We first send a confirmation link; unconfirmed entries are deleted after 7 days. The link in every email removes you, which deletes your address. Emails are sent through Amazon SES.
Technical data
Like any web server, ours keeps standard access logs (IP address, time and requested page) for security and operation. Your IP address is also held briefly in memory to limit the number of AI requests per hour. Neither the logs nor this counter include what you type.
Cookies and tracking
We do not use cookies, advertising trackers or third-party analytics. We count page opens and steps with our own visit statistics, shared with our sister sites and hosted on our server in the EU. They record the page, the page you came from, campaign labels in the link (such as utm_source), clicks on links and buttons, time on page and scroll depth, browser, device type, language and country, never what you type. To link the pages of one visit, a random session ID is kept in your browser’s local storage and replaced after 30 minutes without activity. Your IP address is used only to filter out automated traffic and is deleted after 120 days; the records are deleted after 24 months. We do not count visits from browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Voluntary support
If you choose to support the project, payment is handled by Stripe. We never see your card details.
